There is no railway and no airport in the Parvati Valley. Every route to Kasol comes through Bhuntar, a junction town on the Chandigarh–Manali highway where the Parvati meets the Beas. Get to Bhuntar, and Kasol is 30 km and about an hour up a side road.
The short version
From Delhi or Chandigarh, take an overnight bus bound for Manali and get off at Bhuntar in the early morning. Cross to the local bus stand and take any bus marked Manikaran or Barshaini; it passes through Kasol. A few buses run directly to Kasol or Manikaran — worth looking for, but not worth planning your whole trip around.

From Delhi by Volvo bus
The classic way. Air-conditioned Volvo and other semi-sleeper coaches leave Delhi in the late afternoon and evening for Manali, run by HRTC (Himachal Road Transport Corporation — its green Volvos are branded “Himsuta”) and by many private operators. Departures are from ISBT Kashmere Gate, and private buses also pick up at Majnu ka Tilla and other points. You reach Bhuntar after roughly 11–13 hours, usually between 5 and 8 am.
- Book to Bhuntar (or Kullu) and tell the conductor; the bus will not stop long.
- Book on the HRTC website or a bus app a few days ahead; for Friday nights and long weekends, book earlier.
- The route runs via the Chandigarh area, Kiratpur, Bilaspur, Mandi and the Aut tunnel to Bhuntar. The four-lane highway and its new tunnels have shortened it, but times still vary a lot.
- Carry a warm layer and a neck pillow: the air-conditioning is cold and the last hours are winding.
- HRTC has at times run ordinary direct buses from Delhi to Manikaran. They are slower and more basic; ask at the ISBT enquiry counter.
From Chandigarh
Buses for Manali leave from ISBT Sector 43 throughout the day and night and take about 7–8 hours to Bhuntar. Chandigarh also has the nearest big airport and a railway station with fast trains from Delhi, so train-plus-bus is a comfortable alternative to a full night on the road.
By air
Kullu–Manali airport is at Bhuntar itself, 30 km from Kasol. That sounds ideal, but the runway is short, only small aircraft operate, the schedule is limited and flights are frequently cancelled in cloud or rain. Treat a flight as a bonus and keep a bus as plan B. Chandigarh is the dependable airport.
Bhuntar to Kasol
Local buses for Manikaran and Barshaini leave from the Bhuntar bus stand roughly every half hour to an hour in daytime, from early morning until early evening. They are cheap, crowded and slow. The road follows the Parvati gorge through Jari. Taxis wait at the stand and the airport and work on union rates — agree the fare before you get in.
From Manali
Take any bus down the valley to Bhuntar (about 50 km) and change, or hire a taxi for the 75–80 km. As a day trip, a private Kasol and Manikaran tour from Manali saves the two changes.
Driving yourself
The highway to Bhuntar is good. The Kasol road is a narrow mountain road with broken stretches, heavy weekend traffic and little parking in Kasol; in the monsoon it is prone to rockfall. Do not drive it after dark if you can help it, and leave the car in Kasol or Barshaini rather than attempting village tracks.
Getting around the valley
- Buses run the full road from Bhuntar to Barshaini; flag them anywhere. The last ones up the valley leave in the late afternoon.
- Shared and private taxis wait in Kasol market for Manikaran, Barshaini, Tosh and the Malana road-head.
- On foot is how you reach Chalal, Rasol, Grahan, Kalga, Pulga and Kheerganga. See the places guide.
- Scooter and bike rental exists in Kasol; check the brakes, carry your licence and wear the helmet.
In the monsoon
From July to mid-September landslides regularly block both the highway and the Kasol road, sometimes for a day or more. Check the news and ask at the bus stand before travelling, and do not book a tight connection out of Delhi on the way home. More in safety and monsoon.
